SKRIPSI USING THINK-TALK-WRITE STRATEGY TO IMPROVE THE NARRATIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE EIGHTH GRADERS OF SMP D-BAITO SUNAN PLUMBON TEMANGGUNG
Writing is one of the most essential skills that students have to master to express their feelings, emotions, and ideas. However, the eighth graders still struggle to learn writing skill, especially narrative writing. The complexity of writing causes these problems, which lead the students to fail to meet the minimum standard criteria. Implementing an engaging and interesting learning strategy is one answer to solve the problems. This study has two main objectives. The first objective is to determine whether the use of the Think-Talk-Write strategy can improve the motivation of eighth graders of SMP D-Baito Sunan Plumbon Temanggung in learning the narrative text writing skill. The second objective is to investigate whether the use of the Think-Talk-Write strategy can increase the narrative text writing skill of the eighth graders of SMP D-Baito Sunan Plumbon Temanggung. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. The research procedure is divided into three cycles: PreCycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The subjects of this study were 30 students from class VIII E. Observation sheets, questionnaires, and documentation were used as the instruments to collect qualitative data, and the writing test was used to collect quantitative data. The data analysis techniques were employed to analyze the data. The results showed that the Think-Talk-Write strategy can improve students’ motivation to learn narrative text writing skill. Based on the observation results, the average of the students’ motivation increased from 39.67% to 78%. In addition, the students’ questionnaire responses indicated that their motivation rose steadily from Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. Furthermore, the higher motivation was supported by the writing test results, with the majority of students meeting the minimum standard criteria. These results suggest that the use of the Think-Talk-Write strategy provides an alternative as a teaching strategy for the teacher in improving the students’ motivation and narrative text writing skill.
