SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROJECT-BASED LEARNING USING PICTURE SERIES TO IMPROVE DESCRIPTIVE WRITING SKILLS OF SEVENTH GRADERS AT MTSN
Writing is an essential English skill that students must master; however, many still struggle to organize ideas, select appropriate vocabulary, and apply grammar in descriptive writing skills. Therefore, effective teaching strategies are needed. Project-Based Learning (PJBL), combined with Picture Series as visual media, is an effective approach to facilitate collaborative learning and provide visual support for developing descriptive writing skills. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PJBL) using Picture Series in teaching descriptive writing skills to seventh-grade students and to investigate whether there is a significant difference in descriptive writing skills between students taught using Project-Based learning (PJBL) with Picture Series and students taught using Task-Based Learning (TBL) with Picture Series. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental design which consists of a pre-test, three treatment sessions for both the experimental and control groups, and a post-test. This study involved 64 seventh-grade students from MTsN 2 Kota Magelang in the 2025/2026 academic year, who were divided into two groups of 32 students each. The experimental group was taught using Project-Based Learning (PJBL) with Picture Series, while the control group was taught using Task-Based Learning (TBL) with Picture Series. The results reveal that Project-Based Learning (PJBL) using Picture Series effectively improved students’ descriptive writing skills.
