SKRIPSI USING THE COOPERATIVE INTEGRATED, READING AND COMPOSITION (CIRC) MODEL TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' WRITING SKILL IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
Writing is one of the essential language skills that students need to master. However, many students still face difficulties in writing descriptive texts due to limited vocabulary, lack of ideas, and low motivation. Therefore, an appropriate teaching model is needed to improve students’ motivation and writing skills. One of the learning models that can be applied is the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model. This research had two objectives. The first objective was to investigate whether the implementation of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model could improve students’ motivation in learning descriptive writing. The second objective was to determine whether the implementation of the CIRC model could improve students’ writing skill in descriptive text. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) involving 18 tenthgrade students of SMK Bumantara Muntilan in the academic year 2025/2026. The research was conducted in three stages: pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The data were collected through writing tests, questionnaires, observation sheets, and documentation. The data obtained from the writing tests were analysed by calculating the mean score and percentages to identify students' improvement from the pre-cycle to Cycle II. Meanwhile, the data from observation sheet and questionnaire sheet were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification The findings revealed that the implementation of the CIRC model improved both students’ motivation and writing skill. The observation results increased from 39.35% in the pre-cycle to 66.11% in Cycle I. The questionnaire results also improved from 2.22 (low motivation) to 3.58 (moderate motivation). In addition, the mean score of students’ writing skill increased from 52.55 in the pre-cycle to 70 in Cycle I and 83 in Cycle II. These findings indicate that the CIRC model improved students’ motivation and writing skill in descriptive text.
