SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THINK-ALOUD STRATEGY USING PADLET TO IMPROVE THE SEVENTH GRADERS’ DESCRIPTIVE TEXT READING SKILL
Reading skills are an important aspect of English language learning, particularly in understanding descriptive texts. However, many students still experience difficulties in identifying main ideas, finding specific information, and interpreting implied meanings within a text. These challenges indicate the need for effective instructional strategies that encourage students to become more active and engaged during the reading process. In addition, integrating digital learning media is considered beneficial in creating a more interactive and meaningful learning environment. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Think-Aloud Strategy integrated with Padlet in improving students’ reading skills. The study also examined whether there was a significant difference in reading skill between students taught using the Think-Aloud Strategy integrated with Padlet and those taught using the Reciprocal Teaching Strategy. This study employed a quasi-experimental design involving a pre-test and a post-test in two groups. The participants consisted of 48 eighth-grade students divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received instruction through the Think-Aloud Strategy integrated with Padlet, while the control group was taught using the Reciprocal Teaching Strategy. Data were collected through reading tests administered before and after the treatment. The data were analysed using an independent samples t-test and N-Gain analysis. The findings demonstrated that the Think-Aloud Strategy integrated with Padlet was effective in improving students' reading skills. This effectiveness was reflected in the greater improvement achieved by the experimental group compared to the control group. The findings revealed that the experimental group’s mean score improved from 66.50 to 85.92, while the control group increased from 57.83 to 74.75. Moreover, the Sig. (2-tailed) value was < 0.001, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. The experimental group also obtained an NGain score of 0.5980, categorized as moderate improvement.
