SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CLASSPOINT-BASED QUIZZES IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ RECOUNT TEXT READING COMPREHENSION AT SMP N 6 MAGELANG
Reading comprehension is a crucial skill in English language learning. However, many eighth-grade junior high school students still struggle to understand recount texts due to lack of vocabulary and monotonous learning. PowerPoint presentations, media used by the teacher in the classroom, often make students passive and bored. Therefore, interactive media such as ClassPoint is needed. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ClassPoint-based quizzes compared to PowerPoint in improving students’ recount text reading comprehension at SMP N 6 Magelang. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with two classes: an experimental class and a control class. The research sample consisted of 62 students, with 31 students in each class. The experimental class was taught using ClassPoint, while the control class used PowerPoint. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test, then analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test and N-Gain analysis. The results of the hypothesis test showed a significance value of 0.467 (p>0.05), indicating that Ho is accepted and there is no significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. Therefore, ClassPoint was not proven effective in improving students’ recount text reading comprehension compared to PowerPoint. The lack of significance in these results is caused by the short duration of the treatment (2 sessions), high variability in students’ scores, and technical challenges during implementation. This study concludes that although there is no significant difference between two classes, descriptively, the experimental class showed a slight improvement. Therefore, this study recommended to the further research to extend the duration of the treatment and enhanced better preparation
