SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STORY FACE STRATEGY IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION OF TENTH GRADERS IN MAGELANG
Reading comprehension is an essential skill in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). However, many tenth-grade students still have difficulties in comprehending English texts, resulting in low reading achievement. One contributing factor is the minimum use of teaching strategy in the classroom, where teachers often rely on teacher centered. Therefore, this study aims (1) to examine the significant difference in students’ reading comprehension between those taught using the story face strategy and those taught using the expository strategy, and (2) to investigate the effectiveness of story face strategy in teaching reading comprehension. This study employed a quasi-experimental design. The participants were two tenth-grade classes of SMA N 1 Mertoyudan, consisting of an experimental group (XC) and a control group (XI). Students took a pre-test and post-test, and the score as the data result were analyzed using a non-parametric statistical test which is mann-whitney, and investigated the effectiveness using normalized gain test. The results revealed that students in the experimental group showed a greater improvement compared to the control group. However, the results of the hypothesis test indicated no significant difference between the two groups, as evidenced by the p-value (p > 0.05). Furthermore, the effectiveness of the story-face strategy was classified as low, as evidenced by the n-gain score (G < 0.3). There are several contributing factors, such as the short duration of the treatment, hybrid learning model, and different time schedule. This study concludes that story face strategy showsَّlimitedَّeffectivenessَّinَّimprovingَّstudents’َّreadingَّcomprehensionَّunderَّ the conditions of this study
