SKRIPSI THE EFFECT OF AUDITORY SEGMENTATION ON LISTENING COMPREHENSION OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS AMONG STUDENTS WITH PHUBBING BEHAVIOR AT SMKN 3 MAGELANG
Listening comprehension is one of the essential skills in English language learning, because it requires students to process spoken input and construct meaning simultaneously. However, students` ability to comprehend spoken input is easily disrupted due to excessive smartphone use and smartphone addiction in classroom activities. The habit of prioritizing smartphone and ignoring the real-world interaction is referred as phubbing behavior, which divides attention and hinder auditory processing. To overcome this problem, auditory segmentation was implemented as a strategy to helps students avoid overwhelm by dividing audio into smaller and manageable units. This study aimed to investigate whether auditory segmentation could significantly improve the listening comprehension of descriptive text among students who exhibit Phubbing behavior. This research employed a quantitative research quasi-experimental design involving two classes include experimental class and control class. The experimental class received auditory segmentation, while the control class was received audiovisual with teacher-centered learning instruction. The participants consisted of 38 eleventh-grade students at SMKN 3 Magelang, with 19 students in the experimental class and 19 students control class. This study was conducted over four-session, include a pre-test, treatment session, and post-test. Student listening comprehension was analyzed using N-Gain test using SPSS to determine the level of improvement in descriptive text listening skill. The result indicate that the experimental class achieved mean 0.3754 which categorize as moderate, meanwhile the control class obtained N-Gain mean -1.0125 which categorize as low. These findings demonstrate that the implementation of auditory segmentation serves as an effective cognitive scaffolding to reduce overwhelmed and improving students listening comprehension in descriptive text among student with Phubbing behavior.
