SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GUIDED PRACTICES USING MIND MAPPING STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILLS IN THE REPORT TEXT AT SMP N 1 MAGELANG
Report texts are required as a productive activity in English language skills that involve cognitive processes, making them challenging to master. Some problems faced by students include generating ideas and developing writing into coherent paragraphs. Therefore, teachers need to implement appropriate learning strategies to assist students in writing, such as Guided Practice using Mind Mapping. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of Guided Practice using Mind Mapping on the report text writing skills of ninth-grade students at SMP N 1 Magelang in the academic year of 2025/2026, as well as to compare significant differences in report text writing skills between students taught using Guided Practices with Mind Mapping and those taught using Think-Talk-Write (TTW). This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of ninth-grade students at SMP N 1 Magelang, with the sample of 61 students divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data collection techniques involved administering pre-test and post-test to both groups. The data analysis used the Mann-Whitney U test. The N-Gain test revealed that the experimental group achieved a score of 0.5113 “fairly effective”, while the control group scored 0.3835 “less effective”, accepting the first alternative hypothesis Ha (1) that Guided Practices using Mind Mapping is effective. Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney U test showed a sig. value of 0.000 (< 0.05), meaning the second alternative hypothesis Ha (2) is accepted and H0 is rejected. This confirms that students’ writing skills in the experimental group are significantly better than those in the control group, proving that the integration of Guided Practices using Mind Mapping successfully improved students’ report text writing skills compared to the Think-TalkWrite.
