SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COLLABORATIVE STRATEGIC READING USING PADLET ON DESCRIPTIVE TEXT READING SKILL OF THE SEVENTH GRADERS
Reading is an essential skill in mastering English language. However, many
students still experience difficulties in comprehending English texts due to limited
vocabulary mastery, difficulties in identifying main ideas, and low critical thinking
skills. These challenges are reflected in students’ low reading achievement,
particularly in comprehending descriptive texts. In addition, classroom instruction
is
often dominated by teacher-centered activities, which limit students’
opportunities to actively construct meaning through interaction and discussion.
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Collaborative Strategic
Reading with Padlet in improving students’ reading skill of descriptive texts and to
investigate whether there is a significant difference between students taught using
Collaborative Strategic Reading with Padlet and those taught using Expository
Teaching Strategy with Padlet.
This study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design.
The participants were 64 seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Srumbung in the
academic year 2025/2026, consisting of 32 students in the experimental class and
32 students in the control class selected through purposive sampling. Data were
collected through pre-test and post-test instruments and analyzed using normality
test, homogeneity test, N-Gain analysis, and Independent Samples t-Test.
The findings revealed that Collaborative Strategic Reading with Padlet was
moderately effective in improving students’ reading skills of descriptive texts. The
mean score of experimental class increased from 59.756 in the pre-test to 75.284 in
the post-test, while the control class improved from 58.203 to 65.387. The N-Gain
score of the experimental class was 0.3841, indicating a moderate improvement,
whereas the control class obtained an N-Gain score of 0.1580, indicating a low
improvement. Furthermore, the Independent Samples t-Test revealed a significance
value of 0.005, showing a significant difference between students who are taught
using Collaborative Strategic Reading with Padlet and those who are taught using
Expository Teaching Strategy with Padlet.
