SKRIPSI IMPROVING THE EIGHTH GRADERS‘ SPEAKING SKILLS THROUGH SELF-REGULATED LEARNING USING CUE CARDS AT MTS AL-HUDA MERTOYUDAN
Speaking is an important skill in English Learning because it enables students to communicate ideas and participate actively in classroom activities. However, eighth grade students at MTs Al-Huda Mertoyudan experienced several difficulties in speaking English, such as limited vocabulary, poor pronunciation, lack of fluency, hesitation, and lack of confidence. Therefore, this study aimed to describe how the implementation of the Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) strategy using cue cards improved students’ learning motivation in speaking activities and their speaking skills. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was conducted in class VIII A of MTs Al-Huda Mertoyudan in the 2025/2026 academic year and consisted of 30 students. The data were collected through speaking tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed quantitatively and descriptively to determine the improvement in students’ speaking skills, motivation, and participation throughout the research cycles. The results showed that the implementation of the SRL strategy using cue cards improved students’ motivation and participation in learning activities. The observation score increased from 42.3% in the Pre-Cycle to 66% in Cycle I and 79.57% in Cycle II. Students' speaking skills also improved, as shown by the increase in the average score from 55.46 in the Pre-Cycle to 70 in Cycle I and 84.8 in Cycle II. The improvement was found in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. In the Cycle II, the average score exceeded the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 75, and the performance indicator was achieved. Therefore, the implementation of Self-Regulated Learning strategy using cue cards improved students’ motivation, participation, and speaking skills.
