SKRIPSI STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVE ON THE USE OF CIRCLE TIME STRATEGY IN LEARNING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT SMP N 10 MAGELANG
Learning descriptive text is an important part of English language learning at the junior high school level because it helps students develop their ability to express ideas and describe people, places, animals, or objects. Therefore, it is important to understand students' perspectives on the use of the Circle Time strategy in learning descriptive text to identify how they perceive its implementation and the challenges they experience during the learning process. This study aimed to explore students' perspectives on the use of the Circle Time strategy in learning descriptive text at SMP N 10 Magelang. The study focused on students' perspectives toward the use of the Circle Time strategy, the aspects of confidence, participation, and interaction reflected in their perspectives, as well as the challenges they experienced during the implementation of the strategy. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design involving 29 seventh-grade students of Class 7D at SMP N 10 Magelang. The data were collected through classroom observation, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. The data were analysed using the interactive analysis model proposed by Miles and Huberman (1994), including data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Method triangulation was employed to ensure the credibility of the findings. The findings revealed that students generally had positive perspectives toward the use of the Circle Time strategy in learning descriptive text. The observation results showed that students actively participated in classroom discussions and interacted with their classmates during the learning activities. The questionnaire results indicated that most students selected “Agree” and “Strongly Agree”, reflecting positive perspectives toward the implementation of the strategy. The interview findings also showed that students perceived Circle Time as an enjoyable learning activity that encouraged discussion, idea sharing, and interaction with classmates. However, some students still experienced challenges related to limited vocabulary, fear of making mistakes, and nervousness when presenting their ideas. In conclusion, students generally had positive perspectives toward the use of the Circle Time strategy in learning descriptive text. The strategy encouraged students to participate actively, interact with their classmates, and engage in classroom discussions, although some students still experienced challenges related to limited vocabulary, fear of making mistakes, and nervousness when presenting their ideas.
