Narrative writing is one of the essential skills in English language learning because
it enables students to organize ideas, express creativity, and communicate moral
values through stories. In the Indonesian National Curriculum, narrative texts,
particularly fables, also provide opportunities for students to reflect the values of
the Graduate Profile. Therefore, analyzing students' fables is important to
understand how narrative structures, moral messages, and Graduate Profile
dimensions are represented in their writing.
This study aimed to analyze the narrative structures, moral messages, and Graduate
Profile dimensions reflected in the fables written by tenth-grade students at SMA
Negeri 1 Mertoyudan.
This study employed a qualitative research design using textual analysis. The data
consisted of fifteen students' fables selected from tenth-grade students. The data
were analyzed based on three aspects: narrative structure proposed by Knapp and
Watkins (2005), moral messages classified by Nurgiyantoro (2013), and the
Graduate Profile dimensions.
The findings revealed that all fifteen students successfully constructed narrative
texts consisting of orientation, complication, and resolution, indicating their
understanding of the basic structure of narrative texts. The students also conveyed
various positive moral messages, including kindness, honesty, responsibility,
cooperation, gratitude, humility, forgiveness, perseverance, and respect for others.
Furthermore, seven of the eight Graduate Profile dimensions were identified in the
students' fables, namely Faith and Devotion to God Almighty, Citizenship, Critical
Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Independence, Communication and health was
not identified.
In conclusion, the findings indicate that the students were able to construct coherent
fables by integrating appropriate narrative structures, meaningful moral messages,
and various Graduate Profile dimensions. These findings suggest that fable writing
can serve as an effective medium for improving students' narrative writing skills
while simultaneously promoting character education in accordance with the
objectives of the Indonesian National Curriculum.
