USING DIRECT ANALOGY TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE THE DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS WRITTING SKILL OF THE TENTH GRADERS OF SMA 1 KRAMATWATU SERANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2014-2015
ABSTRACT:
Based on curriculum 2013, it is clarified that English was the compulsory elective for the senior high school. They should develop the four language skills that were listening, speaking, reading and writing. Writing constitutes one of language skill that requires the comprehensions in content, vocabulary, grammar, organization and mechanic. The development of their writing skills can facilitate the applications in some genres including descriptive text. Based on the writer’s observation, it is acquainted that the results in descriptive texts test of the tenth graders of SMAN I Kramatwatu Serang in the school year 2014-2015 were far from expectation. They obtained the class’ average score of 60 less the minimum standard criteria that was 70. The research has the two objectives. Firstly, to know whether the use of Direct Analogy Technique can increase the learning motivation of the descriptive texts writing skill of the tenth graders of SMAN I Kramatwatu Serang in the school year 2014-2015 or not. Secondly, to know how great the improvement of the descriptive texts writing skill of the tenth graders of SMAN I Kramatwatu Serang in the school year 2014-2015 who are taught using Direct Analogy Technique is. The type of this research is the Classroom Action Research. The X-4 class of SMAN I Kramatwatu Serang in the school year 2014-2015 is the subject of the research. The total number of students is 26 people in the classroom. The writer divides this research through Pre-Cycle, Cycle I and Cycle II. The techniques of collecting data adopt test and non-test. The techniques of analyzing data employ fowler’s formula and lane’s theory. The changeover of the learning motivation after they took the Direct Analogy Technique in the teaching learning process discloses the enhancement. The class’ average score is 665.34 in Pre-cycle that designates the fair category. The class’ average score of Cycle I elicits 730.74 that detects the high category. The class’ average score recruits 923.04 in Cycle II that denotes the very high category. The results of the descriptive texts writing skill tests show that the tenth graders of SMAN I Kramatwatu Serang in the school year 2014-2015 reach the recondition in the average scores. The mean is 63.11 in Pre-cycle that belongs to the poor category. The mean becomes 69.65 in Cycle I that points the poor category. The mean ascends 77.42 in Cycle II that registers the fair category. Based on results of Classroom Action Research above, the writer infers that Direct Analogy Technique can increase the learning motivation and can improve the descriptive texts writing skill of the tenth graders of SMAN I Kramatwatu Serang in the school year 2014-2015.
