USING TOWN HALL CIRCLE TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE THE ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE ELEVENTH GRADERS OF MAN 1 MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2015/2016

ABSTRACT:
There are four language skills that should be learned by the senior high school students.They are listening, speaking, reading and writing. Writing is one of the students’ important skills that need competencies in organizing, writing content, applying vocabulary, grammar and mechanics. Besides, the students have to master all kinds of text, including analytical exposition text.The fact is that the eleventh graders of MAN 1 Magelang get difficulties in writing. The average score of the students’ is 70, less than the minimum achievement criterion of 75. They have difficulties in choosing the appropriate words and arranging the sentences in writing an English text. There are two objectives of this research. The first is to know whether or not the use ofTown Hall Circle Technique increases the students’ writing learning motivation of the analytical exposition text of the eleventh graders of MAN 1 Magelang in the school year 2015/2016. The second is to know how great the improvement of the analytical exposition text writing skill of the eleventh graders of MAN 1 Magelang who are taught by using Town Hall Circle Technique in the school year 2015/2016 is.
This research can be classified into a classroom action research (CAR). The subject of the research was the XI Language Class students of MAN 1 Magelang in the school year 2015/2016. There were 37 students consisted of 30females and 7males. The research was divided into three phases; those were Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle-II.In collecting the data, the writer used non test (observation, questionnaires and documentation) and test. The techniques of analyzing the data that the writer used were Quantitative and Qualitative data. The result of the research can be stated as follows: in Pre Cycle test,the class writing score mean was 65.24. In Cycle I test the class mean was 69.14. The improvement from the Pre-Cycle test to Cycle I test was 3.90 points. In Cycle II test the class mean was 79.84, the improvement from Cycle I test to Cycle II test was 10.70 points. So, the total improvement from Pre-Cycle test to Cycle II test was 14.60 points. Based on the above description, the writer concludes that the use of Town Hall Circle Technique can improve the students’ motivation and also the students’ analitycal exposition writing skill of the eleventh graders of MAN 1 Magelang in the school year 2015/2016. The writer expects that the result of the research will be useful in the teaching learning prosses especially for the English teacher and the students. Using town hall circle technique can improve the analytical exposition text writing skills.
