LKP LAPORAN KERJA PRAKTEK "LOCAL AREA NETWORK" DI PT. MEKAR ARMADA JAYA MAGELANG (NEW ARMADA)

ABSTRACT
Few years ago, a private computer network called Local Area Network (LAN), has been applied in large computer or mainframe. When a company (organization) has many computers, and then all of the computers with any others hardware such as connected printer, so that they become one unit that would be intended to share information and other sets by an orientation of well-running business, therefore, for such attempt, we often say the net. This connecting result the speed of access to the large database becomes higher, and this is the only way to imply the larger facility. If all of the activities are held in one building, floor so it is called Local Area Network.
Therefore, LAN is very small network that will serve the need of a working group consists of some computers.
The characteristic of LAN are:
connecting each other in the application of a company or an organization which ruled and operated by user,
structured, it is connected by a communication media with an organized structure,
the hardware can be placed separately but the distance is relatively limited,
that is in one building or even one floor,
supporting the communication held between connected hardware,
has a high processing speed.
PT. Mekar Armada Jaya Magelang uses Netware 4.11 as the LAN operational system by Novell Inc. And the topologies used are ring topology and bus topology. Both of the topologies are operated at the same time. While the hub implied is Ethernet.
The main components in the network are fileserver, workstation, and software. There are 3 configurations allowed as the standard and every standard is
given and identity number:
Standard 802.3: star for Ethernet,
Standard 802.4: bus for token bus,
Standard 802.5: ring for token ring.
