USING OPINIONNAIRES TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE THE ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE ELEVENTH GRADERS OF SMA N 2 MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL OF YEAR 2015/2016

Writing is one of theEnglish language skills that should be mastered by
High School students. However, the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2
Magelang still find difficulties in learning writing, especially analytical exposition
text. The students’ average score is 64.3, it is still less than the minimum standard
requirements of 78. There are several factors that influence the students’
achievement. One of the factors that the students have difficulties in developing
ideas.That is why the writer focused this study on using Opinionnaires technique.
There are two main objectives ofthis research. The first is to know whether
the use of Opinionnaires technique can increase the learning motivation in writing
analytical exposition text of the eleventh graders of SMAN 2 Magelang in the
school year 2015/2016. The second is to know how great the improvement of the
students' analytical exposition text writing skill of the eleventh graders of SMAN
2 Magelang who are taught by using Opinionnaires technique.
This research is a classroom action research. The subject of the research is
XI IPS-2 class of SMAN 2 Magelang in the school year 2015/2016. The total of
students are 30, it consists of 11 males and 19 females. The writer implemented
three cycles, they are pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II.The writer also used
observation sheets, questionnaires, and documentations to collect the data. In
analyzing data, the writer used Fowler’s formula and descriptive analysis.
The writer found that the use of Opinionnaires technique can increase the
students’ learning motivation. There were positive changes of the students’
learning motivation after the writer used Opinionnaires technique in English
writing class. In Pre-Cycle, the students’ average score was 64.3, it classified in
fair category. In Cycle I, the students’ average score was 73.46, there was an
improvement from Pre-Cycle test to Cycle I test. In Cycle II, the students’ average
score was 85.86. The total improvement from Pre-Cycle test to Cycle II test was
21.56.
Based on the above results, the writer concludes that the use of
Opinionnaires technique is a good technique in teaching writing to the students of
senior high school. It increases the students’ learning motivation of analytical
exposition text writing skill. There was a great improvement of the analytical
exposition text writing skill. The writer suggests English teachers to use
Opinionnaires technique in teaching process of writing and also suggests the
students to use this technique in learning writing.
