SKRIPSI USING BIG EATERS TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE THE COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUN MASTERY OF THE SEVENTH GRADERS OF SMP KRISTEN 1 MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2012/2013

English is one of the languages in the world which is regarded as an international language. The purpose of English teaching in Junior High school is to prepare the students in mastering the four language skills, they are, listening, speaking, reading and writing. By the end of the study, students are expected to master English as well as possible.

However, the writer found that the seventh graders students are still confusing in learning countable and uncountable nouns. It is caused by many factors. One of them is teacher still uses text book, technique monotonous so it is make the students feel bored, and have low motivation in learning English. To solve the problem, the writer as the English teacher did the classroom action research. In analyzing data, the writer used a qualitative for to find the result. The analysis of the data showed that there was a little increase of the students’ achievement in each steps, there ere pre-cycle, Cycle 1 and Cycle 2.

The seventh graders of SMP Kristen 1 Magelang increase score about 83.82 after they were taught by using Big Eaters technique. In pre-cycle of score increase 60.5 and in Cycle 2 it was 72.2. There was also a change on the student’s behavior after using Big Eaters technique in Countable and uncountable Nouns learning.

Based on the data, the writer concludes that teaching Countable and Uncountable Nouns using Big Eaters technique is very beneficial to increase the students Countable and Uncountable Nouns mastery.

Hasman Kurniyawan (2013): “Using Shape Coding Technique to Improve the Narrative Text Writing Skill of the Eleventh Graders of SMA Negeri 1 Candimulyo in the School Year 2013/2014”: A Paper: Magelang, English Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, Tidar University of Magelang.

Writing is considered as one of the difficult English skills to be mastered. The narrative text writing skill of the eleventh graders of SMA Negeri 1 Candimulyo in the odd semester of the school year 2013/2014 is not satisfactory. The score of the students get the average of 65, it is less than the minimum achievement of the mastery learning grade that is 75. This condition is caused by both internal and external factors of the students.

The objectives of this study are to know whether Shape Coding Technique can increase the students’ learning motivation of the narrative text writing skill of the eleventh graders of SMA Negeri 1 Candimulyo and to know how great the improvement of the students’ narrative text writing skill who are taught by using Shape Coding Technique is. This research is a classroom action research. The subject of the research is students of XI IPS 3 of SMA Negeri 1 Candimulyo in the school year 2013/2014, it consist of 7 boys and 16 girls. The writer implements four phases in this research; they are Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, Cycle II, and Cycle III. Each cycles consist of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The writer uses observation sheet, questionnaire, and documentations to collect the data. In analyzing data, the writer uses qualitative and quantitative measurement to find out the result.

The writer finds that the use of Shape Coding Technique can increase the students’ learning motivation. The observation and questionnaire results indicate the students’ good motivation in learning narrative text writing skill. The observation percentage in Pre-Cycle is 43.47% and it becomes 79.12% in Cycle III. It improves by 35.65%. The use of Shape Coding Technique also makes improvement in writing test. In Pre-Cycle test, the average score of writing narrative text is 56.17 and it improves by 8.87 (65.04) in Cycle 1; in Cycle II it becomes 69.43 it improves 4.39 and at the end of Cycle III it becomes 76.08.

Based on the above results, the writer concludes that Shape Coding Technique is a good technique in teaching writing to the senior high school especially narrative text. It can increase the students’ motivation in learning and make a great improvement of the writing skill of the eleventh graders of SMA Negeri 1 Candimulyo. The writer suggests that the use of Shape Coding Technique as one of techniques in writing narrative text can be done. The writer hopes the teacher can learn this technique before applying it in teaching because it needs more comprehension and the shape can be modified as well as students’ necessity in learning writing. The students is also hoped to use it as alternative technique in writing narrative text.
