SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF THE ACCURACY OF LANGUAGE FEATURES IN RECOUNT TEXT WRITING OF TENTH-GRADERS
Writing is one of the most challenging skills in English language learning, particularly for EFL learners at the secondary level. One of the text types taught in Indonesian high schools is recount text, which requires students to use specific language features appropriately. This study aimed to identify the language features found in recount texts written by tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Magelang, analyze the accuracy of the identified language features, and analyze the accuracy of past tense usage. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design. The data were collected from recount texts written by 35 tenth-grade students. The texts were analyzed through document analysis, and the accuracy results were calculated using an accuracy percentage formula and interpreted based on the classification adapted from Arikunto (2013). The findings revealed that four language features were found: past tense, action verbs, time conjunctions, and adverbs of time. Action verbs achieved an average accuracy of 78.9% (Good), time conjunctions 88.6% (Very Good), and adverbs of time 86.2% (Very Good). Past tense, analyzed separately, achieved an average accuracy of 74.8% (Good). The study concludes that students generally demonstrated good to very good accuracy, although difficulties in applying appropriate past-tense forms were still found among some students
