TESIS DEVELOPING A CANVA-BASED DIGITAL BOOK TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF REPORT TEXT FOR THE NINTH GRADERS OF SMPIT IHSANUL FIKRI MAGELANG
This study aims to develop a Canva-based digital book and to investigate its
effectiveness in improving students’ reading comprehension of report texts. The
study was conducted at SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri, Magelang, involving ninth-grade
students in the 2025/2026 academic year.
This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach
using the Design-Based Research (DBR) framework proposed by Tjeerd Plomp,
which consists of three phases: preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the developed product, a quasi-experimental design
was used, involving an experimental group and a control group.
The data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, expert validation
sheets, and student questionnaires. The results of the expert validation indicated that
the digital book was categorized as highly valid in terms of content, language, and
design. Furthermore, the results of the quasi-experimental study revealed that there
was a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control
groups. The experimental group showed higher improvement in reading
comprehension compared to the control group, as indicated by the increase in mean
scores and N-Gain results.
These findings suggest that the Canva-based digital book is effective in
enhancing students’ reading comprehension of report texts. The integration of
multimedia elements, interactive features, and structured learning stages
contributes to improved student engagement and learning outcomes.
